Tau Sigma is a national honor society whose purpose is to recognize the academic achievement of transfer students. Adelphi University is one of over 80 chapters nationwide.

The Adelphi University chapter was charted in Fall 2008 and to date has inducted over 800 members.  Once initiated Tau Sigma members have access to a variety of scholarship and leadership opportunities.

Scholarships for Tau Sigma Members

There are both national and local Tau Sigma scholarships available to members.

  • Tau Sigma National Honor Society annually awards over $25,000 in scholarships to its members.
  • Adelphi University awards five members a one-time $500 scholarship each semester.

Scholarships are determined by a member’s involvement in and service to the chapter, involvement in and service to the university, service to the community, and continued academic achievement.

Tau Sigma is a national honor society whose purpose is to recognize the academic achievement of transfer students. Currently, there are over seventy chapters nationwide and New York State has the most chapters with a total of eight.

All full-time Adelphi University transfer students with at least one full year’s academic credit satisfied at their prior institution who achieve a minimum of a 3.5 GPA during their first semester at Adelphi University are eligible to join. If you meet the eligibility criteria you will receive a letter of invitation from Tau Sigma.

All members must pay a one-time membership fee of $45.

Membership in this organization is prestigious. Individuals who become members will be able to utilize all of the services and resources that the national organization has to offer, including scholarship opportunities.

No—even if your grade point average falls below the membership criteria, your membership status will not be revoked as you are automatically a lifetime member.

As a member, you will have a chance to develop leadership skills, participate in community service, and plan both social and educational programs for incoming and current transfer students.
